This plugin imports Half-Life 2 SMD's. It can load both reference and animation SMD's. It supports weights in the SMD file and will create a skin modifer for the reference model, it can also rebuild the smoothing groups from the vertex normals in the SMD file although this can take some time if the model is large.

AXE is a fully-featured DirectX file exporter plugin designed to provide consistent, flexible and reliable data conversion. It supports standard and multi-subobject or DirectX shader materials, editable patch, editable mesh or editable poly geometry, skin and physique modifiers. The latest release can even convert a standard material with multiple UV coordinates to a DirectX material(.fx) and generate shader code such as tangent-space normal mapping.

This free version of AXE is a slightly restricted of AXE Pro, the commercial version of the exporter, and is only for use on non-commercial projects.

OSGExp is an open source exporter from Max to OpenSceneGraph. It has support for geometry, materials, textures, multitextures, procedural textures, environment maps, cameras, animation and has helpers for OSG style level of detail, billboards, switches, impostors, occluders, nodemasks and much more.

This version has the following modifications compared to the original OSG plugin source (v0.9.6):
- LOD, DOF, Switch and Group node positions now matter in the scene
- LOD, DOF, Switch and Group node helpers play an active part in the Max scene hierarchy
- Adding multiple objects to an OSG node helper now has smart filtering
- The LOD UI now allows you to easily change the order of the LODs

It is very possible that these modifications have now been added to the official OSG Exporter here.

OgreMax is a collection of tools for Ogre 3D and Max. It includes the following:

- A .scene exporter for Max, with precompiled binaries for Max 2010 to 2015. The .scene support is fairly extensive, and has been extended to include additional items such as shadow configuration, user data, as well as some other settings
- A .scene viewer with keyboard, mouse, and Xbox 360 gamepad support. The viewer and its scene loading code can form the foundation of your own Ogre 3D game/program
- Documentation is also included, which you should read before using the exporter or viewer

This freeware version is for non-commercial use only, and has the following restrictions:
- Only one texture coordinate set will be exported per mesh
- Only one texture unit will be exported per OgreMax material
