New Plugin: Modelling

This is a simple array modifier that works similar to the array functions in Max, but as a modifier. There are a few adjustments you can make to get some unique effects, and you can stack multiple array modifiers to get interesting results. There's a maximum of 1000 items per array, but adding multiple instances of this will increase your poly count substantially, so beware.

Array is available for Max 2015 and costs $1.

Plugin News: Corona Renderer pricing revealed...

The Corona team have revealed their pricing plans for the upcoming release of Corona Renderer v1.0 for Max. There will be two purchase options: an SaaS (Software as a Service) option where you pay from month to month with no minimum length to the contract, and a Box option which is a perpetual license with reduced support.

The SaaS option will cost €24.99 a month (if you order during the first 30 days of sales, it will only cost €19.90 per month for the first year) and includes free upgrades, access to daily builds, 3 free render nodes, and the ability to cancel your subscription at any time.

The Box option will cost €449 (if you order during the first 30 days of sales, it will only cost €349) and includes the perpetual license, free upgrades for 90 days and 3 free render nodes. There will also be a subscription option to give access to daily builds and free updates for a year.

To ensure permanent access to files created using Corona Renderer even if you are not currently licensed, there will be a reduced-function free version made available.

Sales will start in November. There is no exact date set yet, as the team are trying to get some new features added before getting it out the door.

Features that will definitely be in Release 1 include:
- Full featured interactive rendering
- SSSR - Sub Surface Scattering Revolution
- GGX microfacet model
- New Corona Scatter
- New Blend material
- New UHD cache for animations

New Plugin: Materials

PBRTK is a physically-based viewport shader which employs the popular metalness workflow for authoring physically-based content for next-gen game engines such as Unreal Engine 4.

It allows you to preview your game art right inside Max in a very close way to how it will appear in the final game engine, complete with albedo, metalness, ao, roughness, and normal maps, with support for diffuse and specular image-based lighting.

Site News: Available for contract work...

This is my monthly news entry to let people know that I am always available for 3D work (I don't just run this site, and I don't earn any money from it).

My main areas of work are commercials, industrial and technical animation, as well as programming and scripting. All of the relevant information can be found on my other site Animation Design, along with some videos of my work to give you an idea of what I can do. So if I can help out at all, just let me know.


Site News: Calling all freeware plugin developers

If you are a plugin developer with source code for plugins that you don't develop anymore, it would be great if you could get in touch with me. I would be glad to recompile as many old plugins as possible to stop them from disappearing for ever. Just mail me to let me know what sort of stuff you've got.

On a side note, this is how the Messiah:studio plugins got recompiled for Max 9 to 2012, as well as all of the Sisyphus plugins, so it's worth sending stuff my way :o)
