This extension enables MAXScript access for the commercial script RPManager and the freeware script PSDPathUnwrapper.

Cuneyt Ozdas has released the patch for QuickDirt for Max 6. You can download it from the Digimation website.

New Plugin: Import / Export

This is an improved version of Pop'N'Fresh's MD3 exporter for creating Quake 3 models in Max. The following major fixes and features have been implemented:
- Correct normal export, taking into account smoothing groups
- Bounding box calculation for each frame
- Improved error checking

- No changes to the plugin, just fixes a problem with the installer

New Plugin: Animation

Plugin News: More info on psd-manager v1.1

Just to complete the news entry below, here is what has changed in the new version of psd-manager:
- psd-manager now supports Max 6 and mental ray for Max 6
- psd-manager provides now an efficient workflow between Max and Adobe After Effects. PSD files created by psd-manager can easily be imported as composition into Adobe After Effects 6.0
- 3D scene data such as camera and point helper animation can now be embedded into PSD files. A free After Effects plugin utilizing this data is available from the psd-manager website
- Alpha and luminance mattes can now be created based on objects and materials for use in compositing applications
- Render elements can now be exported as PSD channels or layers. Presets for all new Max 6 render elements are built into psd-manager
- Support for the pixel aspect ratio property in PSD files has been added, as introduced by the recent versions of Adobe Photoshop and After Effects

psd-manager is available for Max 4 to 6, and costs $150. A demo version is available here.


Plugin News: Service Packs from Cebas...

cebas Computer GmbH have released Service Packs for GhostPainter and psd-manager, taking GhostPainter to version 2.1, and psd-manager to version 1.1.

Changes for v1.0 are:
- Fixed many major and minor bugs including reset, refresh, cloning, and undo crashes
- Turned off datatree capability by default to completely exclude potentially unstable situations
- New extended help file
- Cleaned up the interface to make it simpler and more appealing
- Added actions for point-grouping and normal grouping and renaming of objects
- Added more option tabs and options for all new features
- Fixed many problems with item search display, refresh algorithm, and tree display
- Added many new features into both Scene and Layer managers
- Many new dataview algorithms
- Added advanced rename box allowing for advanced item text formatting
- Fixed some layer algorithms such as 'Delete empty layers' algorithm

New Plugin: Import / Export

ScreenSaverMax is a plugin for Max 4 that allows you to export 3D screen savers for Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/Me.

ScreensaverMax v1.0 can generate three types of screen saver:
- Dynamic - a number of 3D models are duplicated and bounced and tumbled around the screen
- Movie - the screen saver plays back animation of your model or scene
- Logo - a single model travels spinning around the screen

Owners of the Professional Edition are free to distribute unlimited screen savers commercially.

ScreenSaverMax Professional is available for Max 4 and 5, and costs $300. A demo version is available here.


New Plugins: Warcraft III Art Tools...

Blizzard have released a set of plugins for Max which allow advanced users to create, modify, and quickly preview models and animations, including particle and ribbon effects, that can be used in custom maps created with Warcraft III's World Editor.

The Art Tools include the following plugins:
- Model Exporter plugin (ModelExp)
- Warcraft III Material plugin (War3bmtls)
- Warcraft III Preview (SGView)
- User Property Editor (UserProp)
- Warcraft III Particle plugin (BlizPart)
- Warcraft III Ribbon plugin (Ribbon)

New Plugin: Modelling

Snap2Terrain is a utility plugin that allows a number of objects (or groups) to intersect with another (usually a terrain). The mesh intersection uses the pivot points of the selected object or groups.

Snap2Terrain is available for Max 4 to 6, and costs $89. A demo version is available here.

New Plugin: MAXScript Extensions

This is a large selection of extremely useful functions for MAXScript. It contains all functions from previous versions, and adds the following:
- Adds interpBezier3D, tangentBezier3D
- Adds sysinfo.processAffinity, sysinfo.systemAffinity
- Adds bit.isNAN, bit.isFinite, custAttributes.getOwner, globalVars.getTypeTag, globalVars.getValueTag
- Adds custAttributes.getDefClass
- getClassInstances now works with MSPlugin and MSCustAttribDef values in addition to MAXClass values

Itoo Software have announced that the Max 6 versions of their plugins will be available in the next few days.


New Plugin: Utilities

A new color picker for MAX, with many great, new features, like 4 different color spaces (RGB / HSV / CMYK / Lab), cool new pickers and a mixing area.

New Plugin: Texturing

The 'Spline Segment Mapping' plugin allows you to quickly create UVW coordinates for complex models. The utility plugin creates UVW mapping coordinates of the cylindrical mapping type along a spline. You need to align every segment of the spline to the original geometry as closely as possible. The underlying geometry will be assigned to each spline segment automatically so that cylindrical UVW coordinates will be created.

The advantage of this kind of UVW coordinate creation is that you can determine the amount of UVW clusters by setting the amount of segments in the spline. These UVW clusters can be stitched together by using the extended functions of the UVW-Unwrap-Modifier (Max 5).

Spline Segment Mapping is available for Max 5 and costs €79 (approx. $90).
